This weekend I put some of my little paintings up for sale at the Farmer's Market. I was so nervous about it. I dont think people have any clue how much
courage it takes to put your art on display. Do they realise that part of your
heart and soul went into each piece? Now, the fact that none of my art sold doesnt faze me one bit. I
love each and every one of them - and am quite happy to keep them with me. In fact I hate parting with my artworks. It's hard. BUT ... the fact that almost every single person just walked past and half glanced at the work without even bothering to come and take a
decent look at it - THAT upset me.
I look at
everything when I go to a market even if I cant afford it- because beauty and creativity fills my soul. Also - it costs me
NOTHING to encourage the artist/crafter in their creative pursuits - and
encouragement , let's face it, it something we all NEED. (just saying......)
wishing you all a happy , fun, courageous, creative week.
much love

Angella - the answer to your question is NO, they don't. Mostly it will only be a crafter that will admire a fellow crafter's work. the majority of the public LOVES to buy 'branded' merchandise, whether by artist or by store - for the brag value attached to it. They will never experience the love and fulfillment you do as an artist, so for now, rejoice in the fact that YOU are a more balanced person, with your values in the right place. Don't let it dishearten you, keep on sharing and caring - YOU ARE AWESOME!
love you lots!

(PS we call them the PPP's = PICK UP, PUT DOWN AND P*S* OFF!)
I agree with what The Blueberry Bear says. It's very disheartening when you have put so much into your art, and all people do is glance at it. I like the PPP idea! Unfortunately there are too many of them about. But them I am glad to say that while there are 99 people who want 'branded' goods, there is ONE person who will appreciate the craft and expertise that went into a handmade item.
I completely agree with you Angella, but I don't think people do realise unfortunately. As long as you know that you are a fantastic, talented and by the sounds of it, caring individual then that might help a little.
Saying that, I hope that you have more financial success the next time you go to a market.
Take care, have a beautiful + creative day

Totally Ciara..Don't let the consumerism world disheartened your given talent!
Keep nurturing, and playing!
There will always be someone who appreciate your art. It serendipitously happens, and when it does enjoy the fuzzy feeling.. ;-)))
